SALT LAKE CITY, UT --- Leg four of a six-game stretch away from Riverside tips off Wednesday night when the Lancers take on the Cougars of BYU. With a top ten opponent on the schedule, CBU will also see an increase in venue size, as the game takes place inside Salt Lake City's Delta Center.
The Delta Center, a 20,000-seat arena, is home to the NBA's Utah Jazz and the NHL's Utah Mammoth.
On Wednesday, the professional arena will host the third game of the Delta Center Series, hosted by BYU. The Cougars have played twice in the arena this season, resulting in victories against North Carolina and Wisconsin.
The Lancers enter Wednesday 7-1 on the year and are coming off their first loss of the season, a 78-70 finish against Colorado on Monday. CBU led by 14 in the first half, but a 16-0 run from Colorado in the second half gave the Buffaloes all the momentum they needed to pull out the win.
Guard Dominique Daniels Jr. led the Lancers with 25 points in the loss. Daniels Jr. has scored 20 or more points in four of his seven appearances this season. He has also eclipsed double-figures six times. Martel Williams finished the Colorado game with 14 points.
CBU's road stint has also featured games against San Diego and Oregon State. The Lancers beat San Diego in Palm Desert as part of the Acrisure Series. CBU then traveled to Corvallis to take down the Beavers.
BYU (6-1) are winners of three straight heading into Wednesday night and finds themselves ranked No. 9 in the AP Poll (No. 10 USA Today). The Cougars played in the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational in Florida over Thanksgiving, finishing 2-0 with wins against Miami and Dayton.
The Cougars are averaging 84.4 PPG, while opponents post 69.1 PPG against them. Richie Saunders leads BYU with 20.1 PPG, followed by AJ Dybantsa with 19.0. Robert Wright III (17.3) and Kennard Davis Jr. (10.3) also average double-figures.
Wednesday night will be a chance for CBU to battle a team with March experience. The Cougars advanced to the Sweet 16 last season and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2023 as well.
The inaugural meeting of the Lancers and Cougars is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (PST) tip-off. The game will be aired live on ESPN+.
CBU will stay in Salt Lake City through the end of the week, as they will take on Utah on Saturday night before returning to Riverside. The Lancers will have one more road game ahead of them, a December 13 visit to Eastern Washington, before returning home to play Southern University on December 16.
