MBB Preview: Non-Conference Schedules to End Saturday Against Sacramento State
12/19/2025 12:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
RIVERSIDE --- The finale of CBU's non-conference schedule provides a sneak preview of the conference landscape moving forward, as the Lancers welcome Sacramento State to Riverside on Saturday. With a future Big West opponent in the building, CBU will look to stay unbeaten at home and carry over momentum from its win against Southern on Tuesday night.
CBU is 5-0 inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Events Center, scoring an average of 76.6 PPG in home contests. The Lancers posted 75 points in Tuesday's win against Southern, pushing the Lancers to an overall mark of 9-3 this season.
Guard Dominique Daniels Jr. scored 30 points in the win, giving him at least 30 in three straight games. Daniels Jr. is averaging 31.7 PPG during that stretch, a three-game span in which he has played all 120 minutes for the Lancers.
Daniels Jr. ranks No. 11 in Division I with a 36.0 minutes per game average. He is also No. 20 in scoring average with 20.8 PPG.
The Lancers are also one of the top programs in Division I in rebound margin, outrebounding opponents by 9.8 boards per game, the No. 20 margin in the country. Thomas Ndong leads the team with 7.2 RPG and is coming off double-doubles in two of the last three outings.
Sacramento State will make its third-ever appearance in the Fowler Events Center, as the all-time series stands at 1-1. The Lancers and Hornets split a back-to-back series during the 2020-21 season. Sacramento State, along with CBU and Utah Valley, will join the Big West Conference next season. The Hornets currently call the Big Sky Conference their home.
The Hornets feature a brand-new look this season, starting at the top with head coach Mike Bibby. Bibby played 14 years in the NBA, seven of which were spent in the capital city with the Sacramento Kings. The Hornets also had a complete roster turnover during the offseason, as none of the members of the 2024-25 roster returned for the 2025-26 season.
Sacramento State is highlighted by UCF transfer Mikey Williams, who is averaging 14.1 PPG and 5.2 APG in his first year with the Hornets. Prophet Johnson and Jeremiah Cherry lead the Hornets in scoring with 15.5 PPG each, while Johnson leads the rebound column with 8.7 RPG.
The Hornets are 4-6 through ten games and have had time to rest as their last game came on December 2, a 110-88 loss at Baylor. Three of Sacramento's wins came against Division II opponents: Dominican, Jessup, and San Francisco State. The Hornets earned a Division I win over Presbyterian, 64-62, on November 16.
Saturday will mark the end of the non-conference schedule for CBU. After Saturday, the Lancers will get the week of Christmas to rest and prepare for the upcoming WAC slate, which begins on December 29 with a visit to Utah Valley. CBU's first home WAC game will be on January 8 against Utah Tech.
