CBU Caps Off 2025 with Tenth Straight Win at Home

RIVERSIDE --- It's the season of giving, and CBU fans did not go home empty-handed as they were gifted another home victory, as the Lancers took down Sacramento State on Saturday. In the final non-conference game of 2025, CBU found its rhythm midway through the first half, as it countered a hot start from the Hornets to keep its home streak alive.
Saturday's win, a 74-67 final, ends CBU's non-conference schedule with a 10-3 record. The Lancers are 6-0 at home and have won ten in a row inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center, dating back to last season.
"Credit to our opponent," said head coach Rick Croy. "They had quite a few days off getting ready for this one. I thought they prepped extremely well. They took us out of some things that we like to do. They made the game really tough."
Saturday was Sacramento State's first game since December 2, a loss at Baylor.
The Hornets provided an early sting, as they jumped out to a hot start with an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage. Sacramento State held that lead for the first 15 minutes of the opening half before a 2-for-2 trip at the line by Dominique Daniels Jr. gave CBU its first lead at 29-28.
CBU used an 11-0 run to push that lead to six and entered halftime with a 38-34 lead.
The lead grew to 12 in the second half, capped off with a fastbreak bucket from Martel Williams with 8:31 to go. But the Lancers couldn't land that knockout punch as the Hornets used an 8-1 run to climb back, eventually drawing within two. A basket from Daniels Jr. moved CBU's lead back to two possessions, and then the Hornets were forced to foul, allowing CBU to put the game away at the free-throw line.
Free throws played a role in the Lancers' victory, as CBU finished 21-of-30 from the line, while the Hornets attempted only six from the charity stripe.
CBU also won the rebound battle for the 11th time this season as the outrebounded the Hornets 45-40. Thomas Ndong was a force on the glass as he pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds to pair with 12 points and two blocks. Ndong has now recorded a double-double in back-to-back games and in three of the last four.
"He's been such a great addition for our basketball program," added Croy on Ndong. "He came to us with tremendous humility and a great attitude."
Croy continued, "(Ndong)'s been competing at a high level again, and he can't lose track of that chip he has. That competitive edge is going to be very important for our team."
Williams led the CBU attack with 14 points on 6-of-11 from the field. Jayden Jackson knocked down four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points, and Daniels Jr. finished with 11.
The Hornets were led by Jahni Summers with 21 points. Mikey Williams finished with 18.
CBU will get the week of Christmas away from competition to relax before starting the WAC season on December 29. The Lancers will battle Utah Valley on the opening night of the conference schedule before traveling to Texas for the next two.
The Lancers will be back in the Fowler Events Center on January 8 to host Utah Tech.
