MBB Preview: WAC Action Tips Off Monday in Orem

OREM, UT --- A 13-game non-conference slate has come and gone, setting up the start for CBU's final WAC season on Monday evening in Utah. With their first three WAC games occurring on the road, the Lancers will open the conference schedule with the highly anticipated matchup between CBU and Utah Valley.
The Lancers wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 10-3 record and are riding a three-game win streak heading into Monday. CBU went 6-0 at home, including a 74-67 victory against Sacramento State on December 20 to wrap up the preseason slate.
Thomas Ndong highlighted the win against the Hornets with a career-high 17 boards to pair with 12 points. It was Ndong's second straight double-double and third in his last four outings.
Ndong leads the Lancers with 8.0 RPG, as CBU enters the WAC season averaging over 41 boards per game as a team. CBU's rebound margin of 9.4 is No. 27 in the nation, six spots behind Utah Valley, which is tied for No. 21 with a margin of 9.8.
Utah Valley closed its non-conference schedule with an identical record to the Lancers, finishing 10-3 after its commanding win against Bethesda on December 20. The Wolverines enter the WAC season winners of their last five.
Monday's conference opening tilt features the top two teams from the WAC Preseason Poll. The Lancers were voted first with 33 points and five first-place votes, followed by UVU with 29 points and one first-place selection.
The Wolverines are led on the offensive end by Jackson Holcombe, who averages 15.5 PPG. Holcombe is one of four Wolverines in double-figures through four games. The others are Tyler Hendricks (12.9), Trevan Leonhardt (10.2), and Isaac Davis (10.0). Holcombe also leads the way in rebounding with 8.0 per night.
CBU features two players averaging double-figures, led by the Preseason WAC Player of the Year, Dominique Daniels Jr. Daniels Jr. is No. 23 in Division I with 20.8 PPG and has reached double-figures in 11 of his 12 appearances this season, including three-straight in the 30s, a streak that ended with his 11-point showing against Sacramento State.
Martel Williams is averaging 15.2 PPG entering the conference season.
Monday will be the first of three regular-season meetings between the Lancers and Wolverines. CBU will welcome UVU to the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center on January 24 for Star Wars Night. The Lancers will return to Orem on February 19.
Following Monday's trip to Utah, the Lancers will visit Texas for games two and three of the WAC season. CBU will take on UT Arlington on New Year's Day before visiting Tarleton State on January 3. The Lancers will host Utah Tech on January 8 for the WAC home opener.
