Celeste Almendariz Named GCC Player of the Week

RIVERSIDE--- Celeste Almendariz collected her first Gold Coast Conference Player of the Week following a stellar weekend that led to California Baptist University women's water polo posting a perfect 2-0 weekend.
Almendariz registered a pair of hat tricks on Saturday as the Lancers defeated #19 Cal State Northridge in a thriller and dominated Chapman for a perfect weekend in the pool. Almendariz only needed nine shots to earn her six goals in the two matches and added a much-needed defensive presence for the Lancers with a steal and three field blocks in the upset win over CSUN.
This is the first GCC Player of the Week honor for the Lancers this season and the first time Almendariz has earned the honor in her career. The senior utility has been one of the key figures for CBU this season, with 22 goals, seven assists, and a team-leading 48 drawn exclusions over 14 games this season.
Almendariz and the Lancers are back in action this Friday as they take on the #21 San Diego State Aztecs at noon.
