WWP Preview: CBU Opens up the 2026 Season at The Joust

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's water polo team opens up its season this Friday as it hosts The Joust at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
The Lancers will host USC, APU, La Verne, and UCSB during the all-day tournament in Riverside and will face off against La Verne and UCSB in head-to-head matches to open and close the day. CBU is coming into the season ranked #25 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association preseason poll after finishing last season 12-16 and 3-4 in conference action.
CBU's season opener will be the 9:00 AM match against La Verne College, and the day will conclude with a future Big West match against #18 UCSB in the afternoon. The Lancers scored 27 goals in the only matchup with La Verne last season at the Joust and will look to make it 2-0 against the Leopards in as many seasons. The second matchup of the day will be against #18 UCSB, marking the 19th meeting in the series' history. CBU will look to defeat the Gauchos for the first time since 2011, and it will be just the third time in program history that the Lancers will host the matchup.
For CBU, they will face ten preseason-ranked opponents this season and five of its future Big West foes. In non-conference action, they will face #18 UCSB, #13 UCSD, #8 UCI, #10 Arizona State, #14 Harvard, and #15 Princeton. During conference action, they will take on #7 Fresno State, #8 LMU, #19 Pacific, and #21 San Diego State.
