Ekkantrong Leads Lancers to Team Victory in Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, AZ--- The California Baptist women's golf program secured its second tournament team win of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. The Lancers were neck-and-neck with Illinois State throughout the three-day tournament, but a record-breaking low day from Pusanisa Ekkantrong would ultimately push the victory CBU's way. Ekkantrong also secured her first individual victory of the season and second career tournament victory as a Lancer.
The weekend started low for the Lancers after Ekkantrong posted a 4-under-par first-round score. The tournament individual champion then tallied a 75 before shooting the lowest score of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational during the final round. Ekkantrong posted an 8-under-par 64 during the third round, marking a new California Baptist women's golf 18-hole record. The previous record was held by Samantha Dizon, Erica Wang, and Burberry Zhang at 6-under-par. Ekkantrong also now holds the 54-hole California Baptist women's golf record at 9-under-par, which Dizon and Zhang previously held at 7-under-par.
Zhang also opened the tournament low, shooting a 69 to start the weekend. The sophomore went on to finish even with par and tied for seventh of 103 golfers while also totaling 15 birdies across the 54 holes. Just behind was Dizon, who placed 13th after shooting a 79, and Lisa Shimmon, who secured a 19th-place finish. Damini Law Ghanshyani also had a successful tournament and placed 21st among the 103 golfers. Ghanshyani perhaps had the moment of the tournament after hitting the elusive hole-in-one during the third round on the third hole. The 2025 win in Rio Verde, Arizona, marks the second year the Lancers have finished in first as a team.
CBU will return to the course in mid-March, and they will return to Arizona to compete in the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University.
