SEATTLE, WA--- The California Baptist University men's basketball team commenced the top half of its final conference road trip on Thursday night as they fell to the Redhawks 72-48 in Seattle.
The night was marred by turnovers and scoring difficulties as CBU fell to 6-7 in Western Athletic Conference play. The loss drops the Lancers into a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings and is now a half-game behind Tarleton for third place. CBU splits the season series with Seattle U after both teams held serve at home. The Lancers were without the services of the WAC's leading scorer, Dominique Daniels Jr., who was sidelined for a second consecutive game.
PLAY-BY-PLAY:
Scoring was at a premium for both squads in the early going, with both defenses forcing a myriad of turnovers and bad shots. The Redhawks would execute a 9-1 run halfway through the period to pull momentum onto their side and take a double-digit lead over the visiting Lancers. The lead would catapult to 32-17 for the home team, but CBU would keep it from getting completely out of hand by finishing the half on an 11-4 run to only trail 36-28 heading into halftime.
The Redhawks defense turned up the intensity in the second half and clamped down on the Lancers, only allowing them to score 20 points, which was tied for a season-low. Seattle U would lead by as many as 26 in the second half before eventually walking away with the 72-48 victory.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
Tylen Riley would finish as the Lancers leading scorer on the night with 14 points on four made field goals. Turnovers would be the story of the night as the usually sure-handed Lancers committed a season-high 22 of them, leading to 29 points for the Redhawks.
NEXT: CBU will conclude its road trip on Saturday, March 1, as they travel to St. George, Utah, to take on the Utah Tech Trailblazers for a 6 PM PT tip.
