HOUSTON - California Baptist University men's and women's swim and dive teams continue to produce impressive results after Day Two of the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Houston, Texas. The Lancer men are still on pace to complete the upset of the year in the WAC, as they have improved their lead from 14 points to 24 over the University of Nevada Las Vegas after two days of action. The women have given up one spot in the standings but remain in the top three in the standings with 210 points, just behind a Northern Arizona squad that has tallied 303 points and not far behind new No. 2, New Mexico State,
A four-some of Lancer Athletes took top-marks on day two.
Remi Fabiani collected his first individual crown of 2025 in impressive fashion, shattering the previous record and becoming the first WAC swimmer ever to complete the 50 free with a sub-19-second time when he splashed and dashed in a time of 18.86 seconds. Sofia Maksimova made it a CBU sweep in that event, also earning gold for the Lancer women in a time of 22.19.
Mark Kovacsics defended his 2024 title in the 500 free by improving his time in the race by nearly two seconds, touching in a time of 4:16.95. The final top podium performance of the day came with another record-setting performance. Fabiani led off the men's 200 free relay, which won in a WAC and CBU record time of 1:16.77. Andrija Petkovic, Ian Mullen, and Brendan Man round out the squad that set the new all-time mark to beat.
Petkovic (50 free) and Gael Jiminez and Mario Del Valle (3-meter) were nearly atop the podium in their individual efforts. Still, they finished second, second, and third, respectively, for First Team All-WAC honors. Seven Lancers and a relay team earned All-WAC Second Team distinction for their A-Final performances, including Naya Koc (50 free), Kai Flanagan (500 free), Liam Flaherty (200 IM), John Angelovic (3-meter), Bella Reynolds (1-meter), Man (50 free), and Audrey Thordarson-Wehner (1-meter) and the women's 200 free relay team. Mullen (50 free), Cody Meyers (500 free), Jon Reiter (200 IM), Eliza Taylor (200 IM), Nate Warson (3-meter), Tyler Mansheim (50 free), and Jade Fontenelle (1-meter) all performed well enough to add to the Lancer point totals.
