ARLINGTON - The California Baptist University women's basketball team hung tough for three quarters in Saturday's regular-season finale at UT Arlington. Unfortunately, a lopsided second quarter favoring the Lady Mavs sealed the Lancers' fate as they fell to UTA 87-73. The loss closes out the first losing season for CBU women's basketball in the Division I era at 12-18 (9-7 WAC). Still, a depth of postseason experience amongst the Lancers has chins and sights held high heading into the Western Athletic Conference Tournament next week.
Khloe Lemon capped the regular season with her seventh game of 20 or more points in just 14 games played. Her 24 points were a team-high on Saturday. Nhug Bosch Duran added 13 points and five assists to the cause, while Anaiyah Tu'ua contributed 11 points and seven boards.
The Lancers led by three after a first quarter where they shot 41.2% from the field (7-17) and 50% from long range (5-10). The second quarter was the difference in the game, though, as UTA outscored CBU 29-11 to build up a 15-point lead by halftime. The second half saw CBU with better shooting percentages than UTA, but Lady Mav offensive rebounds and defensive stops leveled the half outcome.
With the 2024-25 regular season in the rearview, the Lancers now prepare for the WAC Tournament, where they will enter as the 6-seed. Ironically, Saturday's result solidified an immediate rematch between the Lady Mavs and the Lancers, as the win secured the 3-seed for UTA. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. All games will be available on ESPN+, and tournament information and tickets can be found at the WAC Basketball Tournament Central website.
