RIVERSIDE, CA--- The California Baptist University cross-country team released its 2025 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, featuring five non-postseason competitions and three postseason opportunities for the fall.
The Lancers' season will begin in San Diego as they are set to compete in the Aztec Coastal Classic hosted by San Diego State on Friday, August 29. This will be the first time the program has ever competed in the competition and will feature a handful of fellow Southern California competitors. CBU will then return to Minnesota to compete in the annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Lancers last competed in the race in 2023, where they took the top spots for both the men's and women's races.
CBU will then stay local on September 27 to compete in the Riverside Invite before jetting off to Madison, Wisconsin, for the annual Nuttycombe Invitational on October 17. The Nuttycombe Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, is one of the most prestigious competitions in the country and will undoubtedly feature several of the top programs in the country as they tune up for postseason competition. The final non-postseason race will be the following day, on October 18, as a small contingent of Lancers runs at the Highlander Classic at UC Riverside.
On the postseason side of the schedule, the Lancers will head to Arlington, Texas, to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championship on Friday, October 31. This will be CBU's final stint at the WAC Tournament, as they will begin their new era in the Big West Conference beginning in July of 2026. The men's squad will look to win its sixth straight conference crown, while the women will look to bring home the trophy for the first time since 2022 after being runner-ups to Utah Valley the past two seasons. West Regionals will be the next date on the calendar and will be hosted by Sacramento State on November 14, and then the Big Dance will be hosted by the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, on November 22.
Sean Smith will look to replicate the success he had in his first year as the Head Coach after leading the Lancers to a pair of top ten regional finishes a season ago and the men to their highest placement ever at Nationals at 13th in Madison, Wisconsin. Smith was named the West Regional Coach of the Year for his efforts and will look to build upon that success in 2025.
