RIVERSIDE --- Longtime men's basketball assistant coach Doc Wellman will enter his first season as the Lancers' General Manager in 2025. Wellman has been an assistant coach under Rick Croy since 2013 and is entering his 13th year in Riverside.
Wellman's new title with the basketball program will be Assistant Men's Basketball Coach – General Manager. With the growth of NIL in Division I athletics, Wellman's role will see him manage and coordinate all NIL efforts for the CBU men's basketball program.
In his 12 seasons with the Lancers, CBU has qualified for the WAC Tournament in four straight seasons, including WAC Tournament game victories each of those four years. The Lancers are coming off a 17-15 finish in the 2024-25 campaign, a year that saw CBU defeat Tarleton State to reach the conference semifinals for the first time in program history.
Wellman joined the Lancers ahead of the 2013-14 season, following an eight-year run with Croy at Citrus College. The Owls won their first-ever State Championship in 2008 and finished 201-54 during the eight years Wellman assisted the program.
A Southern California native, Wellman graduated from Azusa Pacific with a BA in Applied Studies. He lives in Riverside with his wife Sammi, their daughter Ryleigh, and son Wyatt.
