RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's basketball team will hit the road for its second conference road trip of the season this week as they are set to battle the Utah Tech Trailblazers and Utah Valley Wolverines for Thursday and Saturday contests.
The Lancers enter the week tied atop the Western Athletic Conference standings at 5-1 in conference action, with their only loss coming last week at home to Abilene Christian, with whom they are tied.
The first matchup of the week will be a Thursday night showdown in St. George against the Utah Tech Trailblazers. This will be the second matchup of the season at the Burns Arena after the Lancers defeated Utah Tech 75-67 two weeks ago. The Trailblazers are currently at the bottom of the WAC standings at 1-5, with their only victory coming a few weeks ago at home against Utah Valley. In the previous matchup, the Lancers featured a balanced offensive attack, with four players in double figures, led by Khloe Lemon off the bench with 18 points. Shawnee Nordstrom scored a career-high 16 points in the victory, while Lauren Olsen also contributed 16 points on efficient shooting.
CBU will look to continue its recent success over Utah Tech, having won 18 of the previous 19 matchups, with its only loss over that span coming in February of 2022.
The final matchup of the week will be a Saturday afternoon tilt with Utah Valley at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah. In the previous matchup, the Lancers dominated the Wolverines 82-51 in the conference opener at the Fowler Events Center in Riverside, led by a hot shooting night from the perimeter. CBU outscored UVU by 39 points from the perimeter in the blowout victory and had four players score in double figures. The Wolverines are currently tied for 5th place in the WAC standings at 2-4 and have dropped their last three conference games.
The Wolverines lead the nation in steals per game at 17 and are fourth in the country in forced turnovers, averaging nearly 28 per game. In the previous matchup, the Lancers kept it relatively clean, recording 16 turnovers, and won the turnover margin 21-16, leading to the victory.
