CBU Wraps Up Opening Meet With Nine Podium Finishes

MALIBU, Calif. – California Baptist swimming closed out the Rodionoff Invitational on Saturday with four top-three finishes on day two, bringing the Lancers' total to nine top-three finishes across the opening meet of the 2026-27 season.
"We had a great first weekend of racing for the season. The ladies brought a ton of energy yesterday and carried it into today. A couple of standouts were Faith Fasani and Angelica Benitez. Faith gets faster every time she gets in the water, and Angelica is as versatile as we could ever ask her to be. I'm super excited for this upcoming season with a special group of young ladies. This was a great step as we continue toward the open water championships next week at Long Beach," said head coach Jim Bossert.
Freshman Faith Fasani led the Lancers in the 200-yard freestyle, taking second place with a time of 1:54.70. CBU demonstrated its depth in the event, placing six additional swimmers in the top 10, including five consecutive finishes from sixth through 10th.
Sophomore Angelica Benitez continued her strong weekend with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:23.20. Freshman Jade Bering added a fourth-place finish in the same event with a time of 2:24.71.
The Lancers earned another runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke, where freshman Emilie Bawono touched the wall in 59.31. Fellow freshman Petra Cseresznyes followed in fifth place with a time of 59.82.
CBU rounded out its top-three finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the Lancer quartet placing third in 3:33.94.
After a productive opening weekend, the Lancers will shift their focus to the MPSF Open Water Championships on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Long Beach, Calif.
