RIVERSIDE – The Lancers return to Long Beach this weekend for the annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Open Water Championship on Saturday, October 17.
This year marks the fourth annual championship at Long Beach Marine Stadium. CBU women's swimming has competed at the event every year since its inaugural meet in 2023.
The open water championship is a test of endurance, with the women's 5K typically taking more than an hour to complete. The meet will provide the Lancers with an early-season opportunity to build endurance and prepare for the remainder of the season.

2026 MPSF Open Water Championship
The championship features six events, beginning with the men's 5K at 9 a.m. and concluding with the women's 2,000-meter relay at 2:15 p.m. CBU will compete in the women's 5K at 10:30 a.m. and the women's 2,000-meter relay at 2:15 p.m. All events will be streamed live through GOLS.
Last year, Gabriela Robles and Kai Flanagan led the Lancers in the women's 5K, finishing just one second apart in 1:03:44 and 1:03:45, respectively. CBU also placed fourth out of 25 teams in the relay. The Lancers finished third overall, marking their second consecutive year placing among the top three teams.
CBU will look to continue that success in Long Beach this weekend.
Team Analysis
The Lancers are coming off a strong performance at the Rodionoff Invitational in Malibu last weekend, where the women recorded multiple top-three finishes. Freshman Faith Fasani and sophomore Angelica Benitez were among the team's highlights.
Kai Flanagan and her younger sister, freshman Kona Flanagan, will look to carry their momentum into Saturday's 5K after both recorded top-10 finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle at the Rodionoff Invitational. Sophomore Jeanne-Lise Gauthier also finished in the top 10.
The Lancers will travel to Long Beach on Saturday, with the full team set to compete. Live updates will be available on CBU women's swimming social media channels.
