HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – CBU women's golf caps off an impressive third and final round with a runner-up finish at the Diamante Intercollegiate, led by senior captain Pusanisa Ekkantrong, who tied for third individually.
The Lancers finished second out of 20 teams after stellar performances from Ekkantrong and Cao on Day 3. The team finished at 7-under par, placing behind Sam Houston, which won the tournament at 15-under par.
Ekkantrong had an outstanding final round, shooting 68 (-4), while Cao shot 71 (-1). Ekkantrong finished tied for third at 5-under par for the tournament, marking her best finish of the season.
Cao placed tied for 16th and finished even par for the tournament. Senior Burberry Zhang and junior Lisa Shimmon also had strong performances, as both finished tied for 10th. Shimmon and Zhang each finished at 1-under par for the tournament.
Freshman Crista Miñoza continued her steady improvement, lowering her score by four strokes to shoot 2-over par in the final round. She finished the tournament at 19-over par.
"I'm proud of the fight this TEAM showed over the past 3 days," said head coach Marc Machado. "Being relentless and upholding 'The Standard' of this TEAM was our focus for this event. Once again, our top 4 ladies remained strong and very resilient for us. Their consistency has given us confidence throughout this fall semester. I'm also very proud of how we finished our last 4 holes as a TEAM, in the final round today (-3 for the 4 counting scores). Looking forward to our final event, hosted by NAU, in Boulder City, NV where we get to bring all 9 of our golfers to compete."
The Lancers continue their strong play in Arkansas and will look to close out their fall season on a high note as they travel to Nevada for The Clash at Boulder Creek, hosted by Northern Arizona University from Oct. 25-27.
