RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's volleyball team fell in three sets to the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners on Friday night as their losing skid extended to six games.
CBU started the first set solidly by building a three-point lead after the media timeout at 17-14. Bakersfield would counter with a 5-1 run to retake the advantage as the two teams went back and forth. The Lancers cut the lead to 22-21, but the Roadrunners would hold off CBU to the tune of a 25-23 opening set victory. The Lancers came out aggressively in the second set, and they would nab the early lead. The period would be a game of runs, as neither team led by more than two points throughout the frame. A critical 2-0 run by CSUB would give them a set point at 24-23, but a block by Filippa Botcher would send the match to extras. The Roadrunners would score three of the four points in extras, going up 2-0 in Van Dyne Gym.
All the momentum flipped to Bakersfield in the third set, as they led by as many as 11 points and finalized the sweep at 25-16. Despite the loss, Emery DeJong submitted a solid performance with 16 kills and a season-best 15 digs to lead the Lancers in both categories. Avery Barber led the team with 23 assists while Bella Breuer posted four kills and 2.5 blocks.
NEXT: The Lancers will be back at home tomorrow evening as they take on CSUN at 5 PM.
