RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's basketball team will gear up for its final road trip of the regular season beginning this week as they face UT Arlington and Tarleton State on the road.
The Lancers enter the week atop the conference at 11-3, sitting a half game ahead of Southern Utah and one full game ahead of Abilene Christian, both of which they will face next week. CBU has clinched at least a top-three seed in the WAC Tournament in two weeks and will look to clinch a share of the regular season title or a first-round bye this week.
The opening game of the week will be in Arlington, Texas, as they face the UTA Mavericks for the third and final time. It will be CBU's first trip to Arlington this season, after hosting the Mavericks in the previous two matchups. The Lancers won the previous contests by an average of 24.5 points at the Fowler Events Center, remaining undefeated against the Mavericks at home in the all-time series. UTA currently sits at 4-11 in the WAC standings and is in the midst of a four-game losing streak in conference play. CBU's last win in Arlington came in February of 2024 in a narrow two-point victory, and the Lancers will now look to end that streak in this matchup.
The final game of the week will be the series finale against Tarleton State, as they head to Stephenville for a Saturday matinee at the EECU Center. The Texans currently sit at 6-9 in the conference standings, which puts them in 5th place in the playoff picture for now. The Lancers are 2-0 against the Texans this season, with wins at home and on the road in the previous meetings by an average of 11 points. If the Lancers win both games, they will have an outside shot of clinching a share of the regular-season title. CBU would need two losses from ACU this week, and for Southern Utah to lose its game at Utah Tech, for that to happen.
The Lancers will continue to lean on their three-point shooting and rebounding prowess as they progress toward the WAC Tournament, as they are currently one of the best teams in the nation in those categories. CBU is 10th in the nation in defensive rebounds, averaging nearly 30 per contest, and is 18th in the country in three-pointers made with 8.7 per game. CBU has also established itself as one of the premier shot-blocking teams in the nation at 5.6 per game. A large reason for that is the play of Emma Johansson, who is currently leading the NCAA in both total blocks (78) and blocks per game (2.89). Johansson has six games this season of five or more blocks and has already set the single-game DI-era mark for blocks in a season for CBU.
