
CBU Finishes at the Bruin Wave Invitational

VALENCIA, CA--- The California Baptist women's golf program headed to Los Angeles County this week to compete in the Bruin Wave Invitational, jointly hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine University. The Lancers put up a fight against the impressive field and finished 12th out of 14 programs. The highest individual finishers for head coach Marc Machado were both Pusanisa Ekkantrong and Shuyi Cao, who placed tied for 54th of 80 golfers.
Burberry Zhang kicked off the tournament strongly for the Lancers after shooting 76 through the first 18 holes. She maintained her low ways into the second round of Monday and shot her lowest round of the tournament with a 75. Ekkantrong matched Zhang's second after shooting 80 during her first 18 holes, but finished consistently on the final day with an 81 to place tied for 55th.
Cao also started her tournament strong with a 6-over par before tapering out with a 78 and an 81 to end her week. Samantha Dizon's best round of the tournament came on the final day after she shot a 73 to finish tied for 61st, while Lisa Shimmon tied for 68th after ending her third round with a 77.
The impressive field was stacked with ranked programs, including high-ranking teams like Stanford, Pepperdine, UCLA, and Cal State Fullerton. California Baptist will now turn its attention to next week, as Machado's squad will head to Central California for the Fresno State Classic.
