TULSA, OK--- The seeding and brackets have been set for the BIG 12 Wrestling Championships this week in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and three Lancers have earned seeding.
Gabe Schumm, Paul Kelly, and Jesse Vasquez will all be seeded for the tournament this weekend, earning top-eight spots in their respective weight classes.
Schumm has the highest seed in the group, with a #6 seed designation for the tournament, and will have a first-round bye before facing the winner of #3 Nicco Ruiz of Arizona State and Peyten Keller of Oklahoma. Next in line will be Paul Kelly, who will be the 7th seed in the 149lb bracket. Kelly has now been seeded in each of his first two BIG 12 Championships after being 6th last year in the same bracket. Kelly will also have a first-round bye and will await the winner of #2 Jacob Frost of Iowa State and Kenneth Evans of Northern Colorado. The final seeded wrestler for CBU is Jesse Vasquez, who is #8 in the 141lbs bracket. Vasquez will match up with 2x NCAA qualifier Jordan Titus of West Virginia, whom he defeated this season via decision in Walnut, CA, in the opening round.
Notable matchups for CBU's unseeded wrestlers will include an intriguing battle at 133lbs, where Remy Murillo will face #3 Kyler Larkin of Arizona State. Murillo and Larkin battled it out in a dual in Tempe this season, with Larkin walking away with a 7-2 decision. Drayden Morton at 157lbs will rematch with #4 Ty Watters, whom he lost to via decision 7-1 in Walnut, CA.
The Lancers will be looking to send wrestlers to the NCAA tournament this weekend for the third consecutive season after having three NCAA qualifiers over their three eligible seasons in the BIG 12.
The BIG 12 Championships begin this Friday with Session I scheduled for first whistle at 8 AM PT at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
