AZUSA, CA--- The California Baptist University track team concluded its annual Bryan Clay Invitational weekend on Saturday as they competed in a bevy of 1500-meter distance events at Franson Field.
The day began early with a handful of Lancers competing in the Open C sections of the 1500m races. Jude Enriquez got the day started with a one-second PR with a time of 3:55.15, which would earn him a top 25 overall time in the section. For the women, Ana Mees clocked the 7th fastest time of the section at 4:38.37, placing third in her heat and shaving seven seconds off her personal best time that she set at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival a month ago. Alexis Noble and Abby Biber both recorded top 50 times in the event, with Noble setting a new personal best time at 4:43.89.
In the early evening races, Kevin Sandoval would kick off the evening 1500's by winning his heat with a time of 3:52.78, while Brett Rushman would record the best time of the section at 3:49.76 and would have a top 20 overall time and set a new PR for the junior. Isalys Huet would follow up a 5K PB from last night with another in 1500. Huet would secure a fourth-place finish in her race with a time of 4:24.47, beating her previous best by two milliseconds, and it is the best time for any Lancer this season.
As the sun set, the Lancers would conclude the night with multiple heats of the Open A and Invite sections, beginning with the Invite runs for the men. Gabriel Guzman would finish with a time of 3:50.76 to begin the late-night races, missing his PB by a few seconds that he set at Bob Larsen. Finn Anspach and Manuel Rojas would conclude the invite sections with times of 3:47.28 and 3:49.84, respectively.
In the Open A sections, Helena Mees kicked off the race strongly, finishing with a PB of 4:26.39 and the seventh-fastest time of the event overall. Mahaut Cooren would cross the line at 4:31.31 in the same heat and would place in the top 100. Lamiae Mamouni, Sarah Schiffman, and Sophia Clarkson would compete in the next heat with Mamouni pacing the group at 4:30.03, missing her PB by just a few seconds. Ceyda Pinar would continue a strong sophomore season with a new 1500 personal best at 4:30.80, eight seconds faster than her Bob Larsen Invite time. Perhaps the best race of the night came from Petra Kis, who would knock nearly five seconds off her personal best time and would place in the top 50 in the event. Kis had the second-best time of the section for the Lancers and would place fifth in her heat.
Closing out the night and weekend would be the Men's Open A section of the 1500 with four Lancers competing in separate heats. Lorenzo Riba kicked off the final sections with a time of 3:48.95 before freshman Nicolai Martino set another weekend PB with a time of 3:48.15 in the ensuing heat. Jude DeVries concluded the night with a solid time of 3:51.28, finishing just one second shy of his previous personal best.
NEXT: The Lancers will have a week off before gearing up for another prestigious meet in Stanford at the Payton Jordan Invite on May 1.
