LOS ANGELES, CA --- California Baptist kicked off a short two-match road trip on Friday with a visit to Loyola Marymount. With the aid of a second-half video review, the Lancers netted the only goal of the day off a successful penalty kick, as CBU leaves Los Angeles with a 1-0 victory.

Friday's win improves the Lancers record to 3-2 through the first five matches of the season. All three of CBU's victories have been in shutout fashion.

"This was by no means a vintage performance, but sometimes you have to win ugly," said head coach Coe Michaelson. "I'm proud of the guys for rolling up the sleeves and getting it done in challenging circumstances."

Scoring chances were hard to find on Friday, with the two sides combining for just six attempts on goal. The Lancers doubled the Lions' looks on frame, registering four, with the go-ahead blow coming in the 53rd minute after a VAR review went in the Lancers' favor.

For the second consecutive match, VAR deemed a handball had been committed in the penalty area, rewarding a penalty kick for the Lancers. Junior Blake D'Agostino stepped up for the third time this year, and as he has done in each of his eight collegiate attempts, D'Agostino beat the diving goalkeeper, giving his side the lead.

D'Agostino leads the Lancers with four goals. He has scored in three consecutive matches and in every CBU victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Ulrik Stroem recorded his third collegiate start and second shutout in Friday's win. Stroem totaled two saves against LMU's two looks on goal, including a diving stop on an LMU free kick in the 40th minute.

"We have to have a next man up mentality right now with what we are facing, but I thought we had some guys really step up," added Michaelson. "(Matteo Costa) was huge stepping into the back, and (Ryan Abou-Eid) and (Drew Hardin) gave us a great lift in midfield. But for me,our man of the man was (Stavros Charalampous), a true captain's performance from start to finish."

The Lancers will close out the road trip next week when they visit Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. Wednesday will be the 13th all-time between the Lancers and Lopes, but it will be the first non-conference meeting between the two programs.

Wednesday's meeting in Phoenix is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (PST). The Lancers will return to Riverside on Sunday to host the University of the Pacific.
