Freshman Stroem Named Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week

RIVERSIDE --- Freshman Ulrik Stroem has claimed the first weekly award of the Lancers' Pac-12 era. Following a shutout of Loyola Marymount on Friday night, the conference office named Stroem its Newcomer of the Week for the week of September 16.
The Pac-12 Conference announces three weekly awards throughout the season. Newcomer of the Week recognizes either a freshman or transfer who stood out during the previous week of competition.
Stroem, a freshman goalkeeper out of Oslo, Norway, recorded his third start of the season and second shutout during the Lancers' win in Los Angeles. Stroem recorded two saves, one of which was a diving stop to thwart away an LMU free kick in the 40th minute.
In three appearances, Stroem has tallied five saves and features a .625 save percentage. He has not allowed a goal in back-to-back appearances, as the Lancers also shut out Denver on August 31 with the freshman in goal.
The Lancers have split goalkeeping duties through five matches, with senior Hugo Do Rego recording two starts as well. Do Rego has one shutout, an opening day win against Campbell that marked the tenth clean sheet of the senior's collegiate career.
California Baptist will continue its non-conference schedule on Wednesday with a visit to Grand Canyon. The match, scheduled for 6 p.m., marks the first non-conference meeting between the two longtime conference rivals. GCU transitioned to the Mountain West this season, while the Lancers vacated the WAC for the Pac-12.
Wednesday's contest will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
