Stroem Claims Consecutive Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week Honors

RIVERSIDE --- Freshman goalkeeper Ulrik Stroem has been recognized as the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week for the second consecutive week. Stroem played all 180 minutes of last week's action as the Lancers went 2-0 behind a pair of clean sheets.
Stroem totaled six saves, three in each match, across the two-win performance. He did not allow a goal against both Grand Canyon and Pacific, pushing his consecutive shutout streak to four. The freshman has tallied clean sheets against Denver (Aug. 31) and LMU (Sep. 11), as well.
In five starts, Stroem has allowed three goals, all coming in his collegiate debut against Duke. He has totaled 11 saves and is second in the Pac-12 with a .786 save percentage. Stroem's four shutouts are tied for the conference lead.
The Lancers split goalkeeping duties to open the year, with Stroem and senior Hugo Do Rego swapping starts across the first four contests. Since then, Stroem has seemingly claimed the starting position, having tallied three starts in a row.
Tuesday's honor is Stroem's second and is also the second Pac-12 weekly award for the Lancers since joining the conference this year. The Pac-12 Conference announces three weekly awards throughout the season. Newcomer of the Week recognizes either a freshman or transfer who stood out during the previous week of competition.
The Lancers will play their final non-conference match on Thursday, as CBU is set to visit UC Irvine for the first of three straight on the road. CBU will then start the conference season on September 30 with a visit to Gonzaga.
