Lancers Finish Fifth in Season Opener at Yellowstone Intercollegiate

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Lancers opened the 2026-27 season with a top-five team finish at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate, placing fifth among 11 teams behind a top-15 performance from junior Shuyi Cao.
Cao led the Lancers individually, tying for 14th place. She got off to a strong start, shooting even par in the first round and one-under in the second. A tough final round moved her down the leaderboard as she posted a +8.
Even so, Cao led the team with eight birdies over the tournament, earning her the team's Feather Fight Award. She also came through in the clutch down the stretch, finishing her final four cumulative holes at one-under to earn the team's Clutch Award.
Senior captain Pusnaisa Ekkantrong followed closely behind Cao, finishing one stroke back at +8 overall and tying for 16th. She posted rounds of +4, +1 and +3. Junior Lisa Shimmon placed third for the Lancers, tying for 24th at +11 with rounds of even par, +9 and +2.
Senior Burberry Zhang finished at +16 with rounds of +7, +5 and +4, while junior Nana Ishikawa finished at +21 with rounds of +9, +6 and +6.
As a team, the Lancers posted rounds of +11, +11 and +15 for a three-round total of 901 (+37), finishing fifth out of 11 teams.
"It was great to get back into competition with the TEAM," said head coach Marc Machado. "Lots of positives to take away and some things we can work on and improve for our next event. Our focus remains having a balance of focus and fun, on and off the course."
The Lancers will have a little over a week off before traveling to Lakewood, Washington, for the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational on Oct. 5-6.
