Erica Handley was named an assistant coach for California Baptist University volleyball in February 2022. She is a former professional volleyball player and setter at the University of Minnesota and Syracuse.
In her first season with CBU, the Lancers finished 12-14 with a 7-7 conference mark and participated in the WAC Tournament for the first time in their first year eligible.
Handley played professional volleyball in the first league of Poland, France, Finland, Czech Republic and Germany. The setter led VK UP Olomouc to the 2020 Czech Cup Championship, Oriveden Ponnistus to the 2019 Finnish Cup Championship and participated in the inaugural season of Athletes Unlimited.
Collegiately, she played three seasons under Coach Hugh McCutcheon at the University of Minnesota. She helped the Gophers win a Big 10 Conference championship and reach the NCAA Final Four twice. She earned her bachelor’s degree in communication, made the Dean’s List and Academic All-Big Ten honors and the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award.
Prior to Minnesota, she also spent the 2013 season at Syracuse where she earned Purdue ACC/B1G Challenge All-Tournament Team honors and was a two-time ACC Conference Freshman of the Week. She also competed with the USA Collegiate Continental National Team in June 2016.
Handley also served as a head and assistant coach at McCutcheon Volleyball high school camps. She also led camps for Gold Medal Squared, All-American Camps and Midwest Volleyball Instructors. She has an undying passion for the game of volleyball and wants to do nothing more than serve her purpose of growing the game helping players reach their potential.
Handley is married to her husband Tim. The couple are proud parents of two cats, Stewie and Rupert.
