When it was most needed, California Baptist University's Antonio Chavarria had himself a day and it led to him being named the Player of the Week in the PacWest and NCBWA NCAA Division II West Region on last week.
Coming into the final day of the regular season in need of one win for the PacWest Championship, Chavarria helped drive the Lancers to a doubleheader sweep of rival Azusa Pacific on Monday. Over the entire four-game series, the first baseman batted .444 (8-for-18) with eight runs batted in, five runs, three home runs and a double. He slugged 1.000 with an OBP of .474.
On Monday alone, Chavarria batted 6-for-8 with three home runs and seven RBIs to deliver two wins over rival Azusa Pacific. He went 3-for-4 with a solo homer that ignited the Lancers' offense to a 6-5 win in game one and then hit two three-run blasts in another 3-for-4 performance in a 9-5 win in game two.
