RIVERSIDE--- Nicholas Dumesnil became the 42nd Lancer to be drafted in the MLB Amateur Player Draft on Monday afternoon after being selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 8th round as the 249th overall pick.
Dumesnil becomes the third-highest pick in CBU draft history, the 17th position player drafted from the program, and the 31st player drafted under head coach Gary Adcock. The lone 2025 pick joins former CBU player Garret King in the Detroit Tigers organization.
The speedy outfielder will finalize his collegiate career with a .357 batting average with nearly 200 hits, 107 RBI, 45 doubles, 29 home runs, and a .628 slugging percentage. He accumulated two All-WAC First Team awards, was the 2025 WAC Player of the Year, and was an ABCA All-West Region Honoree in 2024 as a Lancer. His third season in Blue and Gold saw a .360 batting average, complete with 86 hits, 21 doubles, 10 home runs, and 57 RBI.
Dumesnil added several accolades to his standout career in a Lancer uniform after opening his third season in Riverside with several preseason All-American honors, following an impressive summer on the East Coast in the Cape Cod League. Dumesnil became the second Lancer in history to be named to The Golden Spikes Watch List and was also named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
CBU'S IMPRESSIVE HISTORY
California Baptist currently has eight alumni playing professional baseball within the MiLB and one presently playing with an MLB squad. Tyson Miller became the second Lancer to appear in an MLB game when he started on the mound for the Chicago Cubs in 2020 and currently resides with the Cubs as a reliever, boasting a career 3.87 ERA and is 7-3 in MLB contests. Miller is the highest draft pick in California Baptist history after he was selected by the Cubs in the fourth round as the 134th overall pick in 2016.
In 14 of the last 15 years, at least one Lancer has been selected in the MLB Draft. The only exception was during the 2020 pandemic when the MLB Draft was reduced to five rounds, but CBU did see one of its recruits drafted in the fifth round at 158th overall.
