LA MIRADA, Calif. --- How much drama can a California Baptist soccer fan have in the space of 24 hours?
If drama's the goal, the Lancer men's soccer team delivered it, just one night after the women tied at Biola on a last-second Eagles header. Tonight, the men's squad tied up the score at 1-1 in the game's 85th minute, but the Eagles netted the game-winning goal just 3 minutes later to send California Baptist home empty-handed.
The loss, CBU's fifth by a 1-goal margin, drops the team to 1-10-1, including a 0-4-1 mark in GSAC play. Biola, the NAIA's No. 23-ranked program, improves to 8-2, 4-1 with the win.
The Eagles, who unloaded for 10 first-half shots (compared to just 2 attempts from CBU), broke through with the game's first goal when Keir Mitchell converted on a look from 15 yards away from the net.
Although Mitchell's goal came a mere 16 minutes into the game, the Lancers held on to snuff out an aggresive Biola attack, thanks to 5 saves in the opening half by keeper Josh Blanco, who ended the night with 7 total.
After the undesirable showing in the first half in terms of attempts on goal, the Lancers righted the ship a bit in the second 45 minutes, with 10 shots compared to 7 taken by the Eagles. The hard work paid off, however temporarily, in the 85th minute when Robbie Dodson buried his first career goal from a deadly flick-on off the foot of Fashinu-Ron Nesbeth.
Biola, however, refused to settle for its first tie of the year, as Cody Moore's header found the net from a throw-in to make the score 2-1 less than 3 minutes after Dodson's game-tying tally.
