Sophomore Robbie Dodson scored in his second straight game, today's game-winner coming in the 78th minute to lift the Lancers to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over
The win snaps the Lancers' 11 game winless streak (0-10-1) as they move to
“This was a long time coming,” said California Baptist head coach Shayon Jalayer. “We've dropped some games where we should have gotten a result, so to finally get one is great. I'm proud of these guys. Their spirit hasn't been broken, and they keep bouncing back.”
A natural midfielder, Dodson was moved into the attack in Wednesday's game at Biola for the first time this year, and the move has paid immediate dividends. He promptly answered with his first career goal. His second goal in as many games couldn't have been more timely.
With the Lancers playing a man down after Kevin Watson was issued his second yellow card and thus a red card in the 47th minute, Jose Solis found a streaking Dodson down the left sideline. Dodson ran onto the through ball, raced past the last defender and found himself in a one-on-one situation with keeper Logan Frank. Dodson beat Frank with a low shot to Frank's left.
“We needed some time of change, so my assistants talked me into putting Robbie up front,” said Jalayer. “His pace makes him a dangerous striker, and he has made the most of this opportunity.”
However, just 6 minutes later, the Lancers equalized. Spenser Steele played the ball to Jose Solis to the right side just outside the box. Solis played the ball right back to an onrushing Steele, who ripped a shot from 20 yards out to Frank's left. Frank got his hands on the ball, but couldn't control it as it trickled into the net.
Meanwhile, Kramer, who was making his first career start in goal, stood on his head. Kramer collected 9 saves, including several point-blank saves and a pair of one-on-ones.
“Adam definitely kept us in the game today,” said Jalayer.
