RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? California Baptist University Athletic Director Kevin Steele has announced the resignation of men's soccer head coach Shayon Jalayer, effective immediately.
Jalayer just finished his sixth season at the helm of the Lancer program. CBU finished the year 6-10-1 overall, 2-8-0 in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC). After starting the season at 6-3-1, the Lancers lost their last seven games of the year. Of their 10 losses, six were by one goal, including two double-overtime losses to NAIA Top 10 teams.
He fashioned a 38-51-11 mark during his CBU tenure, including a 20-34-6 record in GSAC play. The Lancers did not make the regional playoffs during his six year stint.
After posting a 6-10-2 mark in his first season in 2002, Jalayer led the Lancers to a 10-6-1 overall, 6-3-1 GSAC finish in 2003. Those 10 wins are still the second-highest win total in program history. They finished third in the GSAC that year but still failed to make the playoffs because of a regular-season loss to Menlo, which allowed Menlo to sneak in based on head-to-head match-ups. After that 10-6-1 season, the Lancers were a combined 22-37-8 over the course of the next four years. Their best GSAC finish during that span was a seventh place finish last year.
"I have accepted Shayon's resignation and will begin a national search immediately," commented Steele.
Current Associate Head Coach Wilt Kishimoto will handle the day-to-day operations of the program until a new coach is named.
