BRAUN TAKES EARLY LEAD

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- Defending NAIA Region II champion Jaymee Braun shot a school-record 71 to take the lead after the opening round of the Concordia Invitational Monday at the Skylinks Golf Club in Long Beach, Calif.

Braun fired a 35 on the front 9, followed by a 36 on the back to finish the round one-under par. She leads Kierstan Capito of Cal State Monterey Bay by 2 strokes. CSUMB leads the team competition with a 312, 13 strokes ahead of the NAIA's No. 25-ranked and tournament host Concordia.

“This is probably the best I have seen Jaymee play,” said first-year CBU head coach Lane Pace. “She had a great round, making the shots she needed to make to put herself in position to have success.”

Shauna Curtis finished with an opening round 89 (43-46) and is tied for 17th.
