“We are really on track offensively and I really like how high our hitting percentage has been the last couple of matches,” said CBU head coach Ryan McGuyre.
Verania Willis recorded a game-high 17 kills and hit .464 while her twin sister Angela Willis got 12 with a .421 hitting percentage. Sophomore Shi Fei hit a game-high .571 hitting percentage with nine kills. As a team, CBU hit .469 with a total of 57 kills. Kayla Van Duyn dished out 47 assists. For the second straight night, the Lancers aced their opponent nine times. One night after Brittney Barton set a career-high for aces with five, Angela Willis missed tying a career-high by one ace with four.
“Kayla is doing a great job running the show and were making little adjustments here and there,” McGuyre said. “We have a lot of good options with her being our main setter. We started today's game where we left off last night. We have a lot of strong servers. All six in the starting rotation are good. We are normally one of the toughest serving teams in the nation.”
CBU trailed only once the whole match and that was in the second game at 1-0. The Lancers cruised in the first game behind Verania Willis who ripped nine kills. After falling behind on the first point in the second game, Cal Baptist scored five straight and then took its biggest lead of the game at 28-18. UCCS made a late 5-1 run to pull it to 29-23, but CBU closed out the game on a Colleen Sweeney kill.
