
ANTEATERS SPOIL HOME OPENER

RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? UC Irvine took it to California Baptist University early and often Friday at the Lancer Aquatic Center as the fifth-ranked Anteaters took down the 20th-ranked Lancers 18-7 in men's water polo. Josh Harris and Ryan Steiger led the Lancers with a pair of goals each. Jon Miller and Adam Bowman combined for 11 saves as Miller accounted for 7 and Bowman four.
UC Irvine (1-0) scored the first two goals of the match before CBU (1-4) answered with a goal Ryan Steiger.
Aaron Steiger and Scott Gleason also scored a goal each to make it 6-3 after the first quarter. Chris Morgan and Harris each scored a goal in the second quarter as the Lancers trailed 12-5 at the half. Harris scored a goal in the third and Steiger a goal in the fourth as CBU fell in its home opener.
The Lancers play tomorrow in the Inland Empire Classic in LaVerne, Calif., at 1 p.m. against UC Santa Barbara and then go to Redlands, Calif., to play against Occidental at 5 p.m. The tournament continues Sunday as CBU plays Pepperdine at 1 p.m. and Pomona-Pitzer at 5 p.m. with both games in LaVerne, Calif.
