RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Brent Troutman scored a hat trick as California Baptist downed Riverside CC, 11-5, Friday at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
The freshman scored all three goals in the second half and was one of six different Lancers (24-10) to score and one of four that scored more than one goal.
Aaron Steiger, Chris Toy and Peter Hines all scored a pair of goals while Brett Landfield and Chris Morgan each netted a single goal. Morgan also dished out five assists and posted four steals. Toy and Troutman each recorded three steals as well.
CBU scored the first three goals of the game as Steiger opened the contest with a 6-on-5 goal before Hines ripped back-to-back scores to take a 3-0 lead. The Tigers answered with a goal late in the first to make it 3-1 at the end of the opening quarter.
Toy put CBU up, 4-1, early in the second quarter, before Landfield gave the Lancers a 5-2 lead at the half. Landfield's goal sparked a 6-0 run that carried deep in the third and gave CBU a 10-2 lead. The Lancers scored nearly half of their goals in the third with five. Troutman put the finishing touches on the contest with the only CBU goal in the fourth.
CBU went 3-for-6 on 6-on-5 opportunities while holding the Tigers to just 1-for-4. The Lancers were also 11-for-27 from the field.
California Baptist hits the water again tomorrow as it travels to Santa Clara, Calif., to take on two top-20 teams. The Lancers will play No. 20 Air Force at 1:30 p.m. and Santa Clara at 5 p.m.
