AZUSA, Calif. --- Six-time defending GSAC champion Azusa Pacific rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles' play to squeak out a 6-3 win over California Baptist in both teams' GSAC opener Saturday in Azusa.
The Lancers suffer their first defeat of the season, falling to 2-1 overall, 0-1 GSAC. The Cougars, who are looking for their seventh straight conference title, improve to 4-0, 1-0.
CBU jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead after Alessandro Ventre and Carlos Cirne-Lima defeated Matthijs Bolsius and Patrick Kur at No. 1, and Moti Eisikovits and Karlis Miljons downed Robbie Dabs and Mathias Weber at No. 2.
Ventre picked up the Lancers' lone point in singles' play, downing Bolsius, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1. Patrick Olobo was the only other Lancer to win a set.
