
CBU HOLDS OFF EAGLES

IRVINE, Calif. ? A fourth quarter surge by California Baptist lifted the Lancers to a 14-9 win over Concordia.
Leading 10-8 just minutes into the fourth, CBU (10-2) pushed it to 11-8 on a Brent Troutman goal before the Eagles answered with 4:42 left to get back within two. The Lancers turned to Jeff Woolstenhulme and Chris Toy in the final minutes for the win.
Woolstenhulme put the Lancers up 12-9 before consecutive goals by Toy in the last three minutes.
Chris Morgan led the Lancers with a match-high four goals scoring two each in the second and third quarters. Toy scored his first of three goals in the third before his final two in the fourth.
Jason Bills along with Woolstenhulme netted a pair of goals while Norbert Karoly, Alan Ogden and Troutman all scored single goals.
Zach Bowman notched 10 saves in the win.
It took CBU a little more than a quarter to come to life. Ogden scored the first goal of the game with just seven seconds left in the opening quarter. Karoly and Woolstenhulme pushed the lead out to 3-0 in the second with back-to-back goals before the Eagles finally got on the board with 4:40 left in the first half.
Bills made it 4-1 for CBU, before Concordia answered with consecutive goals to cut it to 4-3 with 1:31 left in the half. Just 10 seconds later Morgan scored his first goal of the game and then added his second with just 16 seconds left in the second to give the Lancers a 6-3 lead at the half.
The Eagles again scored consecutive goals to open the third to cut it to 6-5, but it was Morgan again who came up with two straight goals to put CBU up by three at 8-5. Toy put the Lancers up 9-6, before Bills gave the Lancers a 10-7 lead heading into the fourth.
The Lancers now head to the prestigious NorCal Tournament in Stockton, Calif., where 16 of the nations top 20 teams will collide at Pacific. CBU opens the tournament with No. 1-ranked California, Saturday, at 8 a.m.
