The No. 20-ranked Lancers got the offense going early, rattling off five unanswered goals in the first quarter of play. Three of those goals were an early hat-trick for junior Aaron Steiger. Just one and a half minutes into the second quarter, the Lancers netted another score, stretching their lead to 6-0. The Rustlers made their first mark on the scoreboard in the second quarter, but the Lancer's eventually took an 8-3 advantage into halftime.
The second half began with another Lancer score, but Golden West began to put together a comeback bid as it added to its score, pulling back within four scores during the fourth quarter. In the end though, the Rustlers did not have an answer for the potent Lancer offense, and CBU pulled away with the win.
Steiger led all scorers in the game with seven goals. With that mark, Steiger moves to tied for second on the all time list for goals scored in a game. Austen Ramer posted nine saves in the goal for CBU.
The Lancers will be in action again on Saturday at 10 a.m. The contest against Pomona-Pitzer will take place at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
