CBU Sweeps First Day of Gary Troyer Tournament

POMONA, CA--- It was a perfect Friday for the California Baptist men's water polo program after sweeping both opening games of the Gary Troyer Tournament. CBU began with a dominant performance against Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, securing a 15-7 victory at Haldeman Pool before heading across town to Axelrood Pool, where they bested McKendree College 21-9. The Lancers improve to 13-7 on the season.
The first game of the day began a little too competitively, as both teams exchanged goals in the first period. CBU's Hayes Beamon and Michael Abshier found the net, contributing to a 2-2 tie by the end of the first quarter. However, the Lancers quickly gained momentum in the second period, scoring six goals while limiting Pomona-Pitzer to just one, ending the half with a commanding 8-3 lead.
In the second half, CBU continued to pull away, with goals from players like Wyatt Bugbee and Andrea Nuzzo. The Lancers scored three more times in the third period before putting away the game with a hat trick from Nic Fall to finish with a victory of 15-7.
The Lancers closed out their Friday with an extremely offensive match against McKendree College, dominating from the first sprint. CBU would score no less than four goals in every quarter and kicked off the first with six goals. After securing an eight-goal lead heading into halftime, the Lancers kept digging to extend the deficit, and by the end of the match, eight different Lancers had multiple goals. Quentin Hoffman led the way with three as CBU outshot their opponent 40 to 25.
California Baptist will return to the pool tomorrow for another pair of games, kicking off the afternoon with a match versus Mount Saint Mary before taking on Cal State Fullerton later.
