IRVINE, Calif. --- The No. 19-ranked California Baptist University pulled off a 7-6 upset win over No. 9 Concordia on the road Wednesday. The Lancers are now 22-6 on the season.
The Lancers' win over the Eagles marks the highest-ranked team CBU has upset to this point in program history.
In a tight contest, CBU was able to take an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter. The Eagles were able to find the back of the net once, early in the second quarter, but CBU shut down any Concordia momentum by rattling off three unanswered scores, taking a 5-1 lead into halftime.
The Lancers quickly got back to work, scoring first after the break and stretching their lead to 6-1. However, the Eagles were not going to go quietly as they scored five goals in the second half, cutting CBU's lead to only one late in the fourth quarter. In the end though, the Lancers held on to complete the upset.
Chris Toy led all scorers with a hat trick in the contest. Austen Ramer added 15 saves to his season total in the victory.
The Lancers will be back in the pool for the final time in the 2009 season on Nov. 20 for the CBU Fall Classic. The tournament will take place at the Lancer Aquatics Center. CBU will face off against Fresno Pacific at 12 p.m. and then take on Concordia at 3 p.m.
