BELMONT, Calif. ? Who says you can't go home again? Dorothy may have said it best, ?there's no place like home' and Emma Holden couldn't agree more. The freshman hurler for California Baptist University picked up her 10th win of the year on the same field she pitched for four years at Notre Dame High School.
Holden fueled CBU to a doubleheader sweep by throwing a complete game in a 13-0 win in the nightcap against Notre Dame de Namur after the Lancers (43-3) downed the Argonauts 11-0 in the opener. Holden struck out nine of the 16 batters she faced, allowing just one hit and walking two.
Nikki Lowe opened the nightcap with her 10th home run of the year to give CBU a 1-0 lead before Caty Reeves drove home Kendall Gorham with a single up the middle. The Lancers added two more in the second on a double by Katie Miller and single from Ashley Boyd. Miller drove home Ashley Lacombe from second before Boyd made it 4-0 when she drove in Miller.
Miller put CBU up 5-0 in the third when she singled home Meagan Silva and Boyd made it 7-0 when she drove home Reeves and Lacombe with a single. Miller and Boyd then came around to score to put the Lancers up 9-0 on Allison Smith's single to left field.
Tina Galinato made it 10-0 with a double to left that allowed Nina Cabrales to score from first before Miller singled to left to score Galinato. Smith added two more with a rocket to third to score Lacombe and Miller.
Miller was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Smith was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Boyd was also 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.
The Lancers jumped on the board first in the opener when Nicole Shoemaker lined a double to right center to score Sarah Strong from first in the top of the second. Shoemaker then moved to third on a ground out before Cabrales reached first on a bunt single and then stole second. Gorham cleared the bases with a three-run shot to dead center to give CBU a 5-0 lead.
Shoemaker then made it 6-0 on a one-out solo home run to straight away center in the third. Gorham then doubled to left center to score Silva who reached when she was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Boyd made it 10-0 when she lifted her 12th home run of the year, scoring Gorham and Briana Corral as well.
Erin Moore blooped a pinch-hit double in the fourth to center that scored Strong, to give CBU an 11-0 lead.
Tory Ferreira (16-0) tossed the complete game and allowed just two hits and struck out three. The freshman faced just one batter over the minimum.
Gorham led the way going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Boyd was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored while Shoemaker was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Lancers will now take on Menlo for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
