EL CAJON, Calif. — Ten different Lancers recorded a kill for California Baptist University as CBU won its fourth straight Golden State Athletic Conference match and 14th overall with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-19) win over San Diego Christian.
The No. 3-ranked Lancers hit a .361 (41-11-83) clip, posted 42 digs and seven team blocks compared to a .117 (28-17-94) hitting percentage from the Hawks (8-7, 0-4 GSAC) who had just 27 digs and two blocks.
Freshman Megan Johnson led the way with eight kills, the most she has had in conference play this season. Johnson also had four digs and tied a season-high with four blocks. Bree Rauschenbach ripped seven kills and served a match-high three aces while Fei Shi notched six kills and six digs.
Krista Hasemeyer and Danielle Sargant combined for 32 assists with Hasemeyer coming up with 18. Katie Lockard recorded a match-high nine digs.
The Lancers trailed 7-6 in the first set, but took the opening set on a 19-7 run. It was much of the same in the second when CBU went on a 21-11 run, to go up 2-0 in the match, after trailing 5-4. In the third set, the Lancers broke away from a 3-3 tie take their biggest lead of the set at 20-13 before SDCC made a late run. The Hawks got within five at 24-19, but an attacking error handed the match over to CBU.
The Lancers will head out to Costa Mesa, Calif., for a GSAC contest against Vanguard set for 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
