SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Westmont scored twice in a 42-second span Saturday, and that was all it needed in a 3-0 win over California Baptist University in both team's GSAC opener.
The loss is the Lancers' second straight as they fall to 1-2-3 overall, 0-1-0 GSAC. The Warriors improve to 3-2-0, 1-0-0.
All the damage took place in the seventh minute, and then Westmont closed up shop keeping the Lancers off the board the rest of the way.
Hugo Pizano got things started at the 6:14 mark when he took a short corner from Anthony Niboli. An unmarked Pizano ripped a shot from just outside the corner of the 18-yard box, past a diving Jeff Redinger and into the back of the net.
Just 42 seconds later, Daniel Guzman stunned the Lancers when he cleaned up a loose ball that deflected off Redinger. Guzman easily placed the ball into the open net to give the Warriors, a 2-0 advantage.
With the Lancers pressing forward, Daniel Torres completed the scoring with an unassisted goal with 51 seconds left.
The Lancers had their chances as they generated 13 shots. The Warriors finished with 15 shots.
Westmont keeper Matthew McNabb came up with nine saves. Redinger nabbed eight.
