
LANCERS NAB FOUR PLACERS

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University had four placers at the Third Annual CBU Open wrestled in the Van Dyne Gym Saturday.
In a tournament with 170 wrestlers and 300 matches, Caleb Gerl led the Lancers with a second-place finish at 197. Gerl made it to the finals with a pair of decisions and then narrowly lost to former Lancer and NAIA All-American Enock Francois, 5-3, in the finals.
Matthew Galton (125) and Bronson Gerl (157) both finished third in their respective weight classes. After falling in the semifinals, Galton defeated Sean Silva of Embry-Riddle, 6-2, to advance to the third place match where he edged out Miguel Comparon, 13-11.
Bronson Gerl finished in third with a pin of Travis Gallegos at 6:47, just 13 seconds away from the end of the match. Gerl defeated Aaron Lopez of Santa Ana College, 3-2, in the wrestle back semifinals.
Chris Santana, who won his weight class at the season-opening Santa Ana Tournament, finished fourth at 149, losing to Josh Chang of Embry-Riddle by fall at 6:35. Santana was 4-1 heading into the third place match.
The Lancers return to action next Saturday at the Cuesta Invitational.
