ST. GEORGE, Utah --- California Baptist University fell behind early and never recovered in falling 2-1 at Dixie State Saturday in a Pacific West Conference game.
The loss snaps the Lancers' six-game winning streak as they fall to 6-3, 4-1 PacWest. The Red Storm improve to 4-2-2, 3-0.
"It's a disappointing feeling," said CBU Head Coach Ryan Jorden. "Having to chase a game early against a quality, organized team is tough to do, and our quality just wasn't good enough today."
The Lancers fell behind for the first time since Sept. 3, their last loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills when the Red Storm's Alex Lawhun headed in a corner kick just 1:32 into the game.
Dixie State then doubled the lead in the 68th minute on a goal by Jordan Roylance, marking the first time a team has scored twice in the same game against the Lancers since the Cal State Dominguez Hills game nearly a month ago.
The Lancers out-shot the Red Storm, 16-11, including an 8-3 mark in the second half and they finally broke through 2:04 after falling down two goals. Marc Hope punched in his second goal of the year off an assist from Willie Rupert.
CBU took the final five shots of the game but couldn't find the back of the net for the equalizer. Tyler Walters made three of his five saves in the final 20 minutes.
"We were unintelligent in a couple of moments and didn't do the things we needed to do," said Jorden. "We also didn't take the plethora of chances we created, and as a result were on the losing end."
The Lancers took 15 corner kicks.
