Playing on the road for the first time this month, the Lancers handed AAU a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-11) loss, ending the match in a little over an hour.
"It's one down, one to go," said Head Coach Ryan McGuyre after his team won the first of back-to-back matches with the Knights. "The key for us tonight was strong serving right from the start."
CBU served 15 aces in the match, led by Chloe Ainsworth who posted all of her match-high five aces in the opening set. It was a season-high total for the Lancers, who had posted just 19 aces in their last four matches.
Ainsworth helped close out a dominating opening set scoring three of the last four points on aces.
The Lancers hit progressively better in each set, closing the night with a .409 hitting percentage. CBU committed just nine attacking errors to 20 for the Knights.
"We really had several runs of serves that helped us in the match," said McGuyre. "That allowed us to play better defense. I thought we also transitioned much better, which was something we had been struggling with."
The Knights hit just .033 on their 23 kills in the match and posted five service errors to four service aces.
Jelena Dragovic had four aces on her own to go along with a .444 hitting percentage and three blocking assists.
"Everybody contributed tonight," said McGuyre "Megan Glennie gave us good quality digs and that led to some strong attacking chances. Ingrid Carmona also looked more like her old self."
Carmona led all players with 16 kills in the match, hitting .353. It was Carmona's best hitting match in the past seven contests. Glennie led the Lancers with 12 digs in the match.
The Lancers move to 9-8 overall, 2-4 PacWest, while AAU falls to 5-10, 2-3. The Knights have lost their last three conference matches after a 2-0 start.
