Rauschenbach came in to play against Notre Dame de Namur trailing Yudelka Bonilla by eight aces on the all-time list and proceeded to fire off 10 rockets from the service line on the night, breaking the record and leading her team to a dominating 3-0 win in the process. Just for good measure, her 10 aces also tie the CBU single-match record.
"It's not something I really look at so when I broke the record I had no idea," said Rauschenbach. "It wasn't until coach told me afterwards that I found out. I'm just honored because CBU has meant so much to me and to be in that record book means a lot."
The Lancers had slow starts in each of the first two opening sets, but turned it on mid-way through both to get the wins. CBU looked rusty in the first, but got nine kills from Ingrid Carmona to propel the team to a 25-22 win.
In the second it was Rauschenbach putting on a show from the service line as the senior fired six aces in the game to move within two of the career record. Rauschenbach used a run of five aces in a row and then got her sixth just one point later in the game. Jordyn Siko also fired an ace in the set and even despite a match low .269 hitting percentage the Lancers cruised to a 25-17 victory.
"Bree's serves definitely cracked it open for us," said Head Coach Ryan McGuyre. "It was just great to see her dialed in the way she was and it's really the culmination of four years of hard work. She has been an amazing and loyal player and I'm really happy for her."
The senior wasn't done yet and early in the third game she stepped to the line to serve with the game tied 4-4. After a couple of CBU points Rauschenbach again went on a run, serving three straight balls that cut down the center of the court and glanced off the Argonauts' libero to catch and pass Bonilla's record. She would serve her final ace of the night later in the set to give CBU a 23-13 lead. CBU won the game 25-14 to seal the sweep.
"Bree started out and her first serve wasn't working so she had to go to her second option. Then she threw in that third just for good measure. It was fun to watch," said McGuyre. "We played a good match as a whole tonight. The offense looked great. Our goal is now to get better each match this week while we're on this road trip."
Lost in the mix of Rauschenbach's record-breaking night was Jelena Dragovic hitting .818 on nine kills and Carmona ripping a match-high 17 kills. Dragovic also added 7 blocking assists and Jessica Kalama lead all players with 15 digs.
As a team CBU hit .352 in the match and had 9.0 total blocks.
The Lancers head just north to San Rafael, Calif. for a match with Dominican Wednesday night. CBU then plays Dominican again on Friday followed by NDNU on Saturday to complete the road trip.
