RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Osvaldo Bastida scored twice and had an assist to lead California Baptist University to a 4-1 Pacific West Conference victory over Dominican Monday afternoon.
It is the Lancers' sixth straight win and second over the Penguins in three days. They improve to 6-2 overall, 4-0 PacWest, moving into a first-place tie with Hawaii Pacific.
Dominican falls to 0-7, 0-3.
Alex Anderson had a goal and an assist for the Lancers, and freshman Michael Salazar scored his fifth goal in his fifth game.
The Lancers out-shot the Penguins, 21-7, but only found the net once in the first half. Salazar scored in the 21st minute off an assist from Tyler Garrison, who flicked a ball off his heel off a rebound. Salazar punched right into the middle of the net for a 1-0 Lancer lead that they carried into the intermission.
In the 64th minute, Anderson started an amazing flurry of three goals in three minutes, and when the dust settled the Lancers held a 3-1 advantage. Bastida carried the ball into the right side of the area, cut inside at the end line and slid a ball across that Anderson hammered right down the middle for his second goal in as many games.
Just 35 seconds later, Dominican got on the board. Dennis Maric banged in a shot that bounced off the far post and into the net, getting the Penguins within 2-1. However, Bastida answered right back 1:46 later when he buried a pass from Anderson.
Bastida then completed the scoring with a beautiful strike in the 72nd minute that was ripped into the upper right corner, finishing a string of four goals in less than eight minutes.
It was Bastida's 18th career goal, moving him into a tie for ninth place on the Lancers' career goal scoring list.
