Fausto, who had four goals all of last year, now has four goals the past three games as the junior scored twice today to lead California Baptist University to its second straight win and fourth in the past five games with a 4-0 win over UH-Hilo Saturday afternoon.
The Lancers improve to 6-2-1 overall, 4-1-0 (12 points) PacWest.
The Vulcans, who tied conference-leading Notre Dame de Namur last week, drop to 0-7-1, 0-6-1 (1 point).
It took the Lancers a half hour to get going, but once Fausto got things started, it took them all of 15 minutes to open up a 3-0 lead.
Fausto scored both of his goals in an eight-minute span in the first half, finishing off nicely placed balls, first by Marc Hope in the 32nd minute and then by Jonathan Garcia in the 40th minute.
"His willingness to do unselfish work paid off around the goal," said CBU Head Coach Ryan Jorden. "That doesn't always happen, but a guy in the attacking half who's willing to defend, run behind unselfishly and hit crosses to teammates like he's done lately deserves to score like that."
CBU carried its 2-0 advantage into the intermission and then took all of 1:39 of the second half to make it 3-0 when Hope took a through ball from Tyler Aagard and beat Vulcan keeper Yonha Adrabi in the 47th minute.
Dominic Escalera completed the Lancers' scoring with a strike in the 86th minute. Rob White one-timed a ball from Josh Robinson across the area to an open Escalera at the far post.
The Lancers out-shot the Vulcans 23-2, which included a 16-0 advantage in the second half. For the second straight game, freshman Ian Clark collected a shutout. He was never tested and didn't make a save.
"The guys were able to go get a good result against a conference team," said Jorden. "We knew we'd have to play well to have success. I'm pleased with the sharpness we had, but we still were able to identify some things that we need to work on."
