THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- No. 17 California Baptist University travelled to Thousand Oaks for the Posada Royale tournament on Saturday.
The Lancers took on the Cal Lutheran Kingsman and Chapman Panthers, earning their first two wins of the season beating Cal Lutheran 8-5 and Chapman 12-9.
The Lancers were led by their lockdown defense in both games today, headlined by a marquee performance from Austen Ramer against Cal Lutheran.
Ramer had 10 saves, seven steals and one assist in the first game, and eight saves, two steals and two assists in the first half of the second game.
Ramer and Scott Gleason were the Lancers top two players against Cal Lutheran. Gleason picked up two goals and Matt Puig, Eric Carnohan, Chris Vanjoff, David Rodriguez, Keith Jizmejian and David Ring each had one.
CBU got off to a quick start in game two, leading 10-2 at halftime. Ramer was pulled after the first half to give Dylan Vrooman a chance to get his first action of the season.
Game two was more about the offense than the defense for the Lancers. They got goals from seven different players, including four from Scott Butler and the first goals of the season for Jake Jizmejian and William Walling.
CBU also had stifling 6-on-5 defense throughout the day, holding opponents to just two goals in 13 chances, this continues to be a strength of this team.
Following these victories, the Lancers will travel to Davis, Calif. next Saturday to compete in the UC Davis tournament. Schedule information will be posted later in the week.
